Winter Getaway

We decided for Christmas this year we would give each other a vacation. We left Monday morning for Charlottesville and stopped at a couple wineries on our way. After arriving at the hotel, we headed out to find dinner. We decided on Ariana Grill Kabob House it turned out to be a great idea!

Today we had a lazy morning before heading out to taste some wine. We went by Castle Hill Cidery but they weren’t open, so we went on to Horton winery. After buying some wine we stopped for lunch at Barbecue Exchange on a friends suggestion and it was great! The pork was tender and the sauces are delicious. After lunch we realized many of the wineries we planned on stopping at weren’t open we continued on to Veritas, a beautiful winery but we didn’t find the wine appealing. Our next stop was at Blue Mountain Brewery for a sampling of their beer. They produce a good variety of beer and we picked up a six-pack of their Classic Lager. Our last winery of the day was Cardinal Point.

On the road we spotted Jessica Ln and stopped for a picture.

We met a friend of Jessica’s for dinner at Horse and Hound Gastropub. The burgers were great, and they have some good beer on tap. After dinner we went to Wild Wing Cafe for a few more drinks and good conversation. Now we are back at the hotel to get some rest before tomorrow.

Moving on up!

I know we haven’t been the best about updating this. We just need to get in a routine of doing it.

This year has been a great year for us and our friends. Jessica started a good job in January with Bon Secours. This year our Friends John and Mia had their second son, Bentley who is a chill and alert child, always looking around at what is going on. Our nephew Derek Jr. turned one in May and  just started walking and is already pretty quick. Robbie and Rachel recently had twins, they should be coming home any day. I can’t wait to meet and photograph them.

We just bought a house in Port Norfolk (Portsmouth). It is a three bedroom cottage with a small basement (Basements are very rare in Hampton Roads). We have a one car garage out back, now to run electricity out to it. (these are the pictures off of my phone)

This week has been a lot of work, we are ready to get moved and settled in. we are grateful to everyone who has helped us! We will continue to take pictures as we make this house our home.

I have been somewhat busy with my photography, you can stay updated here. I am always looking for more work, and to expand my portfolio.

Thanks for reading, Matt.

One Year later

We are about to head up to the Northern Neck to do the wine trail up there today. Tomorrow we are heading to the OBX, no particular plans while there just getting away. Monday is looking super relaxed, relaxing at our place and in my (Matt) dad’s hot tub! We will be taking pictures and will let you know what we get into on this great weekend.

Aunt & Uncle

We became Aunt and Uncle last week. Jessica’s brother Derek and his fiance had this handsome boy May 1st. He was 7 lbs 7 oz, he is 8 days old in the picture. He is such a sweet baby and we are both excited to have him in our lives.

I think this images sums up what they must be feeling, excitement & fear. They will do great!

So, yeah it has been a really long time since we have posted. I am not sure where to start but here goes. We still really like our apt. Coming up on a year in here we still do not know as many of our neighbors as we would like to. I guess I just do not know how to greet new neighbors. Nevertheless, I hope to learn.

Matt was laid off around the beginning of August; he went to work at a local marina. However, also needed a second job, so, he got a job back at Pottery Barn. The same company that he worked for when we were in Northern VA. Then March 1st he got a job as a Traffic and Production Manager at a larger advertising agency. Even though his job is not as creative as he is might like or is used to, Matt seems to be enjoying his new job. Matt has been doing more photography lately. We went to PA the weekend before my (J) B-day for Matt to take pictures. Susan did hair and makeup. Susan tried to get like 3/4 models lined up between Fri. and Sat. but I think all of them backed out. But, luckily Susan got her friend Kelsey to come out on Sat. and I posed on Fri. Things went good, and we figured out that the one model a day was good, by the end of the weekend we were ready for a weekend. :) Last weekend Matt shot Jen’s maternity photos. It took longer than I (J) thought it would. Susan came down and did her makeup. Becky came too, she was a real help with the “grip” job. I had no idea what I (J) was doing. I am glad that that they came down. They are always such a great help with hair, makeup, and posing. I guess it is from watching so much America’s Next Top Model…hehe.

I (Jess) am still working for the ASYMCA. I did get a promotion back in November. I am the School Age Coordinator. Although, I/we are considering a change for me. I would like to go back to school as soon as I can. We are not sure whether my current job is the best place for me to be in order to get where we want to be. Marsha and the gang came down for Easter. We went to Bennett’s Creek Park for the Easter eggtravaganza. We had a great time hanging out with the whole family, but really missed Derek. We cannot wait until he is home even for a little while.

We will try to be more diligent about posting. However, anyone that knows the first years of marriage or me (J) knows that maybe hard. Nevertheless, we will try.

It has been two months today that we have been married. We have been really busy. We came back from our honeymoon and hit the apartment search hard, finding a nice little one bedroom in Ghent (Norfolk). I promise we will put some pictures up when we are completely moved in, hopefully this weekend. We are really enjoying having our own space, but we do miss some of the things at my moms house like cable tv, internet, and a dishwasher but we are managing. We have met some of our neighbors in the building, they are all nice and just about all of them are about our age.
My (Matt) cousin Mike and his wife and kids were down at the Outer Banks for the week before the fourth of July. We made it down there for a couple days and had a great time.
Jessica has changed her name on almost everything. Her new VA Drivers License is kinda weird. We have both been working a lot and we are trying to use our YMCA memberships. We both just need to get in the routine of going.
I am still trying ot get together with our videographer to get cracking on the wedding video.

Transitions

We will still be keeping up with the blog, documenting our life together. I am hoping to get started on the video this week and depending on how long it takes I hope to be finished by the end of next week. I can’t promise this though. We will also be packing this week to move into our new apartment in the Ghent area of Norfolk. This weekend we are going to try and get most of the big stuff out there, then slowly get the rest of our things out there next week.

This past weekend we got to spend time with my (Matt) cousin who is in town for just a couple weeks. His wife’s parents got a cottage in the Outer Banks last week and we went down for the weekend. There was 20 of us in a huge cottage which included 7 kids ranging from 7yrs to 2 months old. Man what a wild bunch, and what a lot of fun. It was a great and relaxing time, thanks to Ron & Wendy for inviting us. I should have some pictures up on flickr soon.
